Hello beer and comic lovers. My name is Drew. I'm new around here so I figured I would introduce myself. I've been friends with Brian for quite some times and when I started my own blog (glasscitybrewreview.wordpress.com) he invited me to contribute over here. So you may be seeing a few posts here and there from me. Enjoy my reviews.

This is the first of four unibroue brews that Santa happened to bring in my stocking. The others being "Trois Pistoles" "Ephemere" and "Maudite." Look for those reviews soon.

The Basics:

"La Fin Du Monde" (french for "The End of The World") is Unibroue's oh so amazing 9% belgian style tripel which I've had a few times before.

Appearance:

Pours a beautiful golden honey color with a white head that fades faaaaasst.

Nose:

Delicious smelling citrusy fruit tones with a spicy malt. Really makes you want to take that first sip.

Mouth:

Exceptionally smooth, perfect amount of carbonation, with a great bready yeast flavor. None too malty but a pleasant sweetness makes up for it. It has just the right amount of alcohol flavor which gives it exceptional balance.

Drinkabiliy:

Like I mentioned, this beer is SMOOOOTH. Drinks very light and enjoyable. Every sip makes you want to take another... and another and another and another.

Everything Else:

This just may be my favorite tripel of all time. There is not a damn thing I can say bad about it. If you're looking for a nice sweet, drinkable brew, this is a good place to start. And if you're not a "craft beer" extraordinaire this would be a great beer to try first. I can't see many people turning this beer away.

Overall: 9.5/10

I didn’t pick it up at the time, but my girlfriend, Jo, stopped into a store in Indiana on her way back from Chicago, and decided to grab a bottle when she saw that it was on sale.

First off – it has one of the coolest bottles ever. I love painted on labels, and this one is gorgeous. Check it out:

First off, HOLY WOAH it pours with a ton of head. Like, a lot. Check this picture:

It has a beautiful golden color, and a nice, sweet, almost floral aroma. Not floral like hops, but its hard to put a finger on it.

And tasting it, it is very sweet. More than you expect from a tripel usually. Definitely not as dry as some. Its still very good, though.

You really notice the Belgian Candy Sugar in it – almost like you’re eating rock candy. Not that pure sugary sweet, but that kind of flavor, tempered by the malt.

What is remarkable to me is that there’s almost no clove or banana like you often expect from a Belgian. Not that this is a bad thing, but definitely different.

Jo thinks its unlike your traditional Belgian, at least from what she’s drank. Its a lot sweeter, and she doesn’t know if she likes that as much, but she would still recommend it.

(Its worth noting that her favorite Tripels include Goose Island’s Matilda, and Dragonmead’s Final Absolution.)

I, personally, am really glad to find another brewery I like from Indiana. Up until now my positive experiences with beer from the state I was born in has been limited to Three Floyds.

Brugge, you have won us over, and we will be planning on trying more. Hopefully very soon. Jo mentions that they have a Belgian White – called White – and a stout called Black. Expect to hear about them soon.

7/10

This Belgian-style trippel ale is one I warn people about. It is an outstanding beer, delicious, complex, and highly drinkable. It is also a lot stronger than it seems at first. Its one that while very easy to drink, its a strong 10% ABV. It sneaks up on you.

It pours with a little bit of head that quickly dissipates, but what you first notice is the aroma. There are spicy notes in there; a great Belgian character. Definitely clove, but not as much banana as some Belgians.

The first sip dances on your tongue. Vanilla, tiny bits of citrus, and more banana than the nose gives away. There’s absolutely a candy sugar in there as well, since its sweet without being a highly malty-tasting beer.

This beer is golden heaven in a bottle, and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys a good belgian – or who just loves Michigan beer.

10/10

So, the other night with nothing to do, and a palate I hadn’t blown out yet, I decided to make it a Belgian night. Its been a looooooooooong time since I’ve had the Urthel Tripel, so I figured it would be worth a try again, as I used to loathe Belgians. Urthel was everything a tripel should be, without being all that I hope for. It was quite good, but not fantastic. Its one of those great benchmark beers. Very well representative of the style. Somewhat fruity, and estery, without being overpowering. Enough alcohol to call it a tripel, but not enough to blow me away. Personally, I like to see ‘em be a little more powerful. I like my beer flavorful… I guess I’m an extreme beer guy.

7/10. Well worth the purchase, but not something i need to have repeatedly. A good benchmark for the style.

Bormen, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. It was a day late and a dollar short. While Urthel is by no means the best tripel ever, this just came up shy in every area, except color and mouthfeel. It was a fine beer, just not impressive. A bit more of everything would have benefited this beer incredibly.

5/10
