Chaucer’s Mead = Delicious

I shared a bottle of Chaucer’s Mead this past weekend, and it was totally outstanding. I’ve never had mead before, and honestly I can’t imagine a better introduction. The honey flavors really come through and are unlike any other flavor I’ve ever tasted in the world of alcoholic beverages. Overall it’s very light and sweet, yet not cloyingly so. It’s very close to a lambic in some of it’s undertones, however it didn’t have the fruity sweetness. The alcohol flavor is definitely present (it weighs in at 11% ABV), but mostly because the light flavors really aren’t strong enough to combat the boozy taste. But it’s important to note that the alcohol flavors are in no way too strong, only that they’re definitely there. It’s a bit more pricey than your average potable at $15-$18 a bottle. You might also have to look around for it, since it’s actually produced by Bargetto Winery, so call ahead before just stopping by your favorite liquor store.
