Urthel Tripel and Bormen Tripel

So, the other night with nothing to do, and a palate I hadn’t blown out yet, I decided to make it a Belgian night.  Its been a looooooooooong time since I’ve had the Urthel Tripel, so I figured it would be worth a try again, as I used to loathe Belgians.  Urthel was everything a tripel should be, without being all that I hope for.  It was quite good, but not fantastic.  Its one of those great benchmark beers.  Very well representative of the style.  Somewhat fruity, and estery, without being overpowering.  Enough alcohol to call it a tripel, but not enough to blow me away.  Personally, I like to see ‘em be a little more powerful.  I like my beer flavorful… I guess I’m an extreme beer guy.

7/10.  Well worth the purchase, but not something i need to have repeatedly.  A good benchmark for the style.

Bormen, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing.  It was a day late and a dollar short.  While Urthel is by no means the best tripel ever, this just came up shy in every area, except color and mouthfeel.  It was a fine beer, just not impressive.  A bit more of everything would have benefited this beer incredibly.

5/10
