This summer, the same as all summers, has two events that I’m particularly excited about in the world of comics:  Marvel’s Secret Invasion, and DC’s Final Crisis.  While in some sense, you could say both have already begun, what with Marvel’s multiple Skrull reveals and DC having run two different 52 week books in preparation for Final Crisis, the latter of which being the aptly named, “Countdown To Final Crisis.”  This particular entry shall span the realm of Marvel, as I have some brushing up to do on my DC stuff.  52 universes is extremely confusing afterall.

Here we have it, two more weeks til Secret Invasion (April 2).  7 more weeks til Final Crisis, as this upcoming issue is #6 and DC Universe #0 will be the first of Final Crisis.

That being said, I’m starting to get pretty giddy about Secret Invasion, as I seem to be a Marvel junkie at heart.  Not only that, its only a little over two weeks away.  I’ve put a lot of thought into who may be Skrulls, who I really wish were Skrulls, and which characters I would like to see get worked over majorly in the impending battle, among other things.

There are a few people I believe are Skrulls, the first of them being Joe Quesada.  Seriously.  I’m still bitter about One More/Brand New Day.  That being said… I’m gonna have to go with Reed Richards.  There has got to be another big reveal out of the Illuminati.  It can’t be Tony Stark, as much as I wish it were to forgive him for his douchebaggery.  I’d have a tough time buying Namor.  Xavier would be the perfect candidate, with his new found walking abilities, but chalk that one up to M day.  Black Bolt was obviously already revealed.  Doctor Strange I’m not so sure about.  I could go either way on him.  It would make sense, with his ties to the New Avengers.  Not to mention he’s been put in some precarious situations with them as of late, plus he’s more or less dropped off the face of the earth recently.

Within the Avengers, I’m gonna have to say theres going to be a few.  My bets are Ms. Marvel, spider-woman, and the Sentry.  In all honesty, I have no idea why any of them should be, aside from the fact that Ms. Marvel is more or less the “leader,” and the Sentry is the strongest superhero of the team.  They just seem like good, likely candidates to be removed and replaced.  Spider-woman on the other hand, has actually manipulated the system in a rather odd, possibly even skrully, manner.  By taking Skrullectras body to Stark, she affirms to him that she’s on his side, and trustworthy.  Ready to be part of the system again.  While it does deceive her friends in the New Avengers, it sets her up with S.H.I.E.L.D. clearance and all that good stuff.  Good move for a Skrull to get in on the inside.  You can do more damage from within.

New Avengers: I can’t see Logan being a skrull, what with his appearance in just about every single comic in the last 20 years.  There is just no time for him to have been taken or replaced.   I have trouble believing that luke cage could be.  I just don’t think a Skrull could be that big a thug.  I would really love to see spider-man be a skrull, as i would love to see the last 6 months of spider-man completely retconned, but I don’t think its going to happen.  Echo might be a skrull, although I wouldn’t count on it.  Like I said before, Doc Strange could be, but i really have no idea.  Ronin could be, but what purpose does that serve?  Iron fist could be, as he has a bit more sway.

I would really like to see Nick Fury make an appearance again soon.  He’s a character I miss seeing around.  Hopefully S.H.I.E.L.D. will collapse to some extent and Tony Stark will get royally fucked over.  Then, Nick Fury will come in, defecate on Stark’s face, and make things sweet again.  This should all likely repeal the civil war stuff, and make heroes into heroes for heroes sake.
