So I was really lazy last week and never posted a review of my comics I got… I’ll have you know, however, that Streets Of Glory was excellent, as was The Boys. Scalped never disappoints, and certainly didn’t fall short this issue. Amazing Spider-man was pretty good, and Nightwing was alright. Northlanders continues to be excellent, and Logan was really interesting, though I’m not sure how it’ll shape up in the long run. I really hope he’s there to witness the Hiroshima bomb, that would be pretty friggin’ awesome.
This week I’m going to try to be a better blogger and actually get my reviews up, if the puppy doesn’t prevent me from doing so, again. So, what is on the list this week, you may ask yourself? I shall tell you, right now in fact.
- Amazing Spiderman #553
- DMZ #29
- Lone Ranger and Tonto #1 (for real this time. no lies)
- Mighty Avengers #10
- Punisher #55
- Wolverine #63
You may ask yourself, “Why, Brian, should I be reading the aforementioned titles?” Well, some are more easily answered than others, lets start with #2, DMZ #29. DMZ, from the first issue I read, had me completely hooked. The whole back story about another Civil War in our time, with Manhattan being a demilitarized zone was fascinating to me. Why should you read this issue? Well, this issue begins a new arc, following the 6 or 7 recent character pieces they did. Finally we come back to our protagonist, journalist Matty Roth, and continue to see what this kid is made of. I’m going to venture to say this would be a good jumping on point for non-readers.
How about #3, Lone Ranger and Tonto? Well, aside from the fact that the Lone Ranger is probably one of the best books to debut in 2007, this one shot will likely give you greater insight into the shrouded figure known as Tonto. This book never disappoints, so I’m super excited.
Mighty Avengers #10: Skrulls. Need I say more? No.
Punisher #55: This is Garth Ennis’s final arc on this book… I’m personally heart broken, as he invented one of the greatest characters to ever be in comics, Barracuda. This title is always fun, and frequently offensive. One of the best titles around to drink beer with.
Wolverine #63: I really enjoy wolverine, but this post-Messiah Complex stuff is rather interesting. PLUS, its being written by Jason Aaron, who writes Scalped, which is another absolutely incredible book to debut in 2007. Seriously Wolverine, get Mystique.
Last, but not least, Amazing Spider-Man. You really don’t need to read this book, but its Spider-Man. Hating Spider-Man is like saying, “I hate beer.” Hating One More Day and the first few arcs of Brand New Day, however, is like saying, “I love beer, and I am an intelligent human being who enjoys emotional depth in my characters.” I completely agree with hating One More Day, and the beginning of Brand New Day, that shit sucked.
