Michael Chabon on the Significance of Costumes
I have yet to read any of Chabon’s novels, but The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay is definitely on my shortlist of need-t0-read books. He has an interesting essay in the current issue of The New Yorker that examines the utility and origin (not just in comics, but in society) of the superhero costume. Check it out.
He’s also going to be speaking at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan (of boomstick manufacturing fame) in the coming weeks, so if you’re in the area and so inclined you might want to check it out.
Thanks to Sarah for the heads up on the essay!
